Go West! Linking to Westlaw and other important JustCite developments

A man can be judged by the company he keeps. Might the same be true of a company? We'd argue that in the case of our provider-neutral JustCite citator it is.

Buoyed by newly invigorated arrangements with two of the big players, LexisNexis and Westlaw, and an agreement with knowhow management specialist Tikit, JustCite is certainly growing in stature and gaining recognition in the legal information world.

But what's in it for you? Let's look at each development in turn.

LexisNexis Butterworths

We have signed a groundbreaking new contract with LexisNexis Butterworths. It will see JustCite complete a comprehensive index of LNB's full legal collection.

60 additional titles are being added, comprising 33 case law report series and 27 journals.

The process of adding this enormous archive started last month and should be up-to-date by early autumn this year.

Justis Publishing MD Masoud Gerami said: "This represents a hugely significant development involving a major publisher with whom we already have a very strong, established relationship. It will add great value to JustCite, increasing its indexing of LNB titles by a big fraction."

Westlaw

Following work with Westlaw, JustCite now deep-links to the new Westlaw UK platform.

This means that JustCite users who also subscribe to Westlaw can search the extensive JustCite database before jumping straight into any full-text Westlaw record they find.

However, please note that to access Westlaw via JustCite users must first sign a variation to their current Westlaw contract which, in its standard form, precludes access to Westlaw UK via third-party software services.

Users should contact their Westlaw account manager to arrange this, and let Justis Publishing know the sponsor code they will be given to activate the links for them.

Detailed instructions will follow but any questions in the meantime can be addressed to the Customer Liaison Team at training@justis.com or on +44 (0) 20 7284 8117.

Tikit

Tikit, the UK-based supplier of knowhow solutions and legal software, has for some years been maintaining an "authority file" that lists tables of effects for cases and legislation. This authority file has traditionally been available as part of the Tikit KnowHowSystem (KHS). From yesterday Tikit ceased maintenance of their authority files and instead offer customers the option to use JustCite as an alternative. Rather than accessing JustCite via its normal interface users of the KHS will view JustCite data within the environment they are used to. This will come about as a result of an integration Tikit have written, with our assistance, using the JustCite API (Application Programming Interface).

This move will be of huge potential benefit to KHS users as JustCite covers a far broader range of material than the original authority files.

With PLC also currently experimenting with the JustCite API to use the JustCite data to enhance their users' experience, we are confident that many other publishers and legal service providers may follow suit.

Successful launch of Justis Parliament

Justis Parliament was launched on Justis on Tuesday last week.

High traffic, positive feedback and few confused calls to Justis HQ suggest that both new and old users alike love the migrated service.

A three million record-strong index to the proceedings and publications of the Houses of Parliament, and the Welsh and Northern Ireland Assemblies, Justis Parliament is used for legislative tracking, statutory interpretation and all manner of queries that can't be dealt with by recourse to statutes and case law alone.

Its incorporation into Justis has brought numerous benefits to the Justis search interface for all Justis users, such as advanced data source selection, search form customization and an expansive set of preset searches.

If you would like to extend your trial of Justis Parliament, please contact our Sales Team at sales@justis.com or on +44 (0) 20 7284 8080.

Countdown to our launch of the Bermuda Law Reports over

We have now launched the Bermuda Law Reports on Justis.

Previously only available electronically on their own subscription-based website, from today they are available exclusively on Justis. Including material on arbitration, insurance and reinsurance, general company matters and trusts, the Reports are fully searchable and cross-referenced, benefit from our world-beating results handling and will be indexed on our JustCite citator. Like many other case report series on Justis, they are available as printable PDFs.

Existing subscribers who used the old site might like to arrange remote training for the Justis platform via WebEx. If so, please email david.finch@justis.com.

Summary judgments

In case you haven't already spotted them, our Editorial Manager, Rory Campbell, now compiles free weekly summaries on Justis and JustCite of some of the most significant judgments and acts coming into force. If you're pushed for time - and who isn't? - Rory's concise commentaries are for you. They can be read by all visitors and are accessed pre-sign-in on Justis and JustCite.

We provide RSS feeds and email alerts for some of our services. Allowing you to sign up for a tailor-made selection of pre- and post-sign-in content, these feeds keep the growing band of those in the know, well, in the know. If you think it would be useful for Rory's weekly summaries to be available as RSS feeds or email alerts, please let us know by emailing communications@justis.com.

Hints & tips

Link customization

Extremely easy to set up and growing in popularity, JustCite link customization is one of many free labour-saving features for account administrators and end users alike.

Alongside its citator function, JustCite is an umbrella platform into full-text online services. Dropdown menus of links to the likes of Justis, Westlaw, Lexis and many other providers are given for each record it indexes and cross-references. But you could be forgiven for forgetting which services you and fellow users have access to.

Link customization solves this problem by automatically greying out dropdown menu hyperlinks to services you can't access, leaving active those that you can. In this way it allows you to mirror your subscriptions or direct users to the services you would prefer them to go to for different information types.

Links can be customized as often as your subscriptions to other services change. If you'd like us to customize your links, please contact our Customer Liaison Team on +44 (0) 20 7284 8117 or at training@justis.com. We'll send you a simple form to fill in and return and we'll do the rest for you.

As ever, if you'd like to arrange training, please get in touch through the same contact details. Our training department has had a lot of praise recently; Karen Beck of Boston College Law Library said that James Mulholland's remote WebEx training was "well-organized, thorough, practical, and to-the-point". We couldn't have summed up our approach better ourselves.
